This year has already been an incredible journey with Mama’s Love Language, and it’s only just begun. I’ve had the privilege of reading my book in several amazing schools and bookstores, connecting with young minds in ways that have deeply touched my heart. So far in 2025, I’ve shared my story at public and private elementary schools and bookstores all over the Bay Area —each visit creating its own special moments, unforgettable conversations, and a renewed sense of hope for the future.

At these readings I asked the children about accents and if anyone could relate to knowing someone around them whether it is a family member or caregiver who may be from another country where English is not their first language. So many raised their hands and so beautifully shared the unique backgrounds that created their families. I was overjoyed to see so many mixed race and multiracial children fill the auditoriums.

Growing up, Lunar New Year was something that mostly stayed within my home—it wasn’t widely discussed or acknowledged in the schools I attended. But here I was, standing in front of classrooms full of children who not only knew about it but were excited to share what they had learned.
More than that, I was thrilled to not just be the one teaching them about Lunar New Year but to also be the one learning from them. As I asked them about their own traditions, hands shot up in the air, and I listened as they told me about how their families celebrate—some with dumplings, some with red envelopes, some with family gatherings full of joy and laughter. It was such a special feeling to realize that, through my book and through this cultural connection, we had formed an even deeper heart connection.

It’s moments like these that remind me just how important the work of our educators truly is. The teachers and staff at these schools are going above and beyond—not just in teaching academics but in shaping compassionate, culturally aware young individuals. It is through their efforts that children today are growing up with a wider understanding of different cultures, traditions, and ways of expressing love.

After witnessing the magic that takes place in these schools, I feel a renewed sense of hope for our future. These children are curious, engaged, and open-hearted. They are growing up in a world that, little by little, is becoming more inclusive, more understanding, and more connected. And if my book, Mama’s Love Language, can play even a small role in that? Well, that is more than I could have ever hoped for.
I can’t wait to see where the rest of the year takes me and my book—because if these first few months are any indication, 2025 is going to be a year full of beautiful connections, meaningful conversations, and so much love.
